Too complicated for me. I have been purchasing wine for over 50 years, I have NEVER had a retailer or winery not honor my request to hold a shipment. Some have charged a dollar or two per bottle if holding longer than three months.
Choose a hotter destination area and then update the shipping when it’s time to ship.
$25 to change an address
Remind me never to shop here. Any wine in transit is at weather related shipping risk (barring 100% cold chain)
To argue with a customer who clearly cares enough to contact you about this, suggesting the only recourse is to cancel minus a fee or to ship in 100 degree weather is asinine at best and forgetting that the customer is the foundation of their business model.
Cheap corkage
That’s not “curious” it’s irresponsible.
I ordered a case from them and to say the least customer service was not the greatest. I really like their selection and prices on some bottles but can’t order from them on principal.
That too
I think that is the agreement that UPS management reached with its drivers, but of course that does not literally mean every single truck on the street is air-conditioned. All new trucks purchased in 2024 are supposed to be air conditioned, and older trucks are supposed to be retrofitted, but I routinely see UPS trucks driving around my neighborhood With doors wide open.
I personally would not rely on this and would only ship during cooler temperatures.
Owner saw this - reached out to my friend to make it right and admitted to the less than ideal customer service.
Not sure if they are changing their policy though.
My reputation!
I had a winery ship out an order yesterday. I told them I was rejecting it when it got here. It’s triple figures hot. They recalled it and are sending a new shipment later this month. Glad they did the right thing but befuddling that they can’t hold when weather hits triple digits. Push shipping back a month.
I would be shocked if they are air conditioning the cargo section of the truck.
Cargo will get cold on the flight because, it’s cold up there. My beer cans in the cargo section were nicely chilled when I checked them after a cross-country flight.
Actually they heat the cargo hold of a plane (transcon) to around 7 degrees C. Otherwise liquids would freeze.
and animals in there would die
So, 45 degrees. My beers appreciated that temperature, as would wine.
Did a search and found if a pet is the cargo hold, the temperature will be kept between 64-74 degrees. Otherwise, the temperature would be 45 degrees.

I feel like there’s almost always animals on planes though, especially big ones with 200+ passengers.
Flights offering pet transportation in luggage holds are limited.
