Cros Parantoux – the sweet spot of Richebourg

Interesting info … Cros Parantoux - the sweet spot of Richebourg

nice article and site. Thanks.

An excellent read. Thanks!

A good read. I have to say that in the vintages I’ve tasted from barrel, I have a preference for Méo’s CP over his Richebourg. The former has a certain dynamism and energy that makes the latter seem just a little leaden…

Wow, excellent.
Thank you.

Epic article. well done.

Steen is doing a great set of articles on different vineyards. I’ve learned a ton from his site.

He also wrote about Richebourg last year.

Thanks…Steen.

Thanks. Just signed up for the weekly article.

Thx for the kind words …

working on several other vineyards … including the 11 climates of Echezeaux … a lot of work though. Try to publish new vineyard articles every second week or so.

Great work Steen, really interesting.

As for drinking CP, I still prefer Rougets version now to Meo’s from what I have had (although Jayer is still the best!).

They do need a lot of time to really shine though…

Well done Steen.

Great article, I can’t believe how much of a wine tragic I’ve become that I found that so interesting.

Is it correct that the 1827 map says “Clos” Parantoux (not “Cros”)? What’s the origin and meaning of cros?

Still waiting for my 2005s to be 30-40 years old…grrrrr.

Awesome, thanks!

No - Parantoux was never a Clos (surrounded by walls).

According to Jasper Morris the name comes either from “crais” (chalky - Meo) or from “creux” (a dip in the ground - Rouget). Parantoux was most probably a former owner …

Unfortunately I have never tasted the Jayer-version.
Both Meo-Camuzets and Rougets bottlings are of high class … I prefer Rougets which is purer, less toasty and sweeter on the palate.
Not superior to a top-Richebourg, but on the same level, if less chewy and opulent, rather more minerally driven.

The recent bottlings of Méo haven’t been a bit toasty Gerhard - and I’m a bit of a high-toast-a-phobe…

Bill,
the last (youngest) Cros Parantoux/Meo I have tasted was 2006 - and that was clearly “toasty” …
Good if the style has lightened up a bit …

On the other hand: had a Rouget Savigny (Village) 2007 recently, and that was absolutely stunning and really GC level !!! flirtysmile Blind I would have thought: Echezeaux!

Did you look at the map in the article? Doesn’t it say clos?
