Crabathon - '04 Laguiche, '02 Bouchard Chevy, '11 Kistler

Last night with very good friends to celebrate a birthday we decided to have a stone crabathon with some appropriate wines.

1990 J. Lassalle Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne en magnum
In a perfect place. Just a hint of sherry this was really expressive and was great throughout the whole evening. Very Krug like nose but Salon like powerful and laser palate. Extremely fine and lively mousse. Fantastic. 96

2004 J. Drouhin Montrachet Marquis de Languiche en magnum
I really like many of the '04 white burgs. This showed wonderfully with lots of mineral underpinning copious fruit and a long finish. 96

2002 Bouchard Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte
Unfortunately this was a lot more advanced then previous bottles and a real let down next to the freshness of the Languiche. [swearing.gif]

2011 Kistler Vine Hill Vineyard
Back on track this is characteristic of Kistler’s recent vintages. Everything is dialed back a bit. Great balance. Rich but with plenty of mineral and bright acidity. Barely noticeable wood. 95

Wow that looks good…drooling on my keyboard. Killer wines too.

I am hearing good things about Dungeness crab season on our the left coast so far.

Pre-mox 02 Chevy, ouch.

Nice. I think the vintage J. Lassalle BdB is just about the most overlooked great Champagne there is. The '88 was an epiphany for me & made me realize how great Champagne could be.

premox Bouchards !

I cant buy them anymore

Todd,
That was my first Lassalle. What a treat.

Michael,
I have generally had good luck with Bouchard but this one really hurt.

Thanks for the great notes.

Michel - is Bouchard one of the problem children now?

My absolute favorite Food Stone Crab!
Where were you for the Dinner?

Del Friscos in Charlotte. Beautiful space.
