Couple of Krugs: NV Grande Cuvee & 2000

Opened a couple of bottles of Krug at a party held at my locker this past weekend. Wasn’t planning on opening the 2000 but the Grande Cuvee went so fast that I was itching for more. Looking at past threads about the 2000 Krug seems to show some polarizing views on this vintage. All I can say is that the 2000 was rocking for me. Great bottle.

Frenchie was there and I picked out a 07 Fevre Les Clos from his cellar to open. Damn, this was smoking good, also.

Opened at my locker to share with some friends. I’ve had this bottle several times now over the last couple of months and it never ceases to amaze. Rich and full with great creamy texture. Citrus, green apples, nice minerality, great acid backbone. I could drink this everyday. Vintage DP is at the same price point and while I like DP, I prefer the house style of the NV Krug.

This was opened immediately after finishing off a bottle of the NV Krug Grande Cuvee. What was immediately apparent (and not surprising) was how much more vibrant the fruit was in comparison to the Grande Cuvee. Also, loads more acidity. Citrus notes dominate the palate. I expected it to be wound up tight, but was approachable from first pour. Great richness and texture. This was fanfreakintastic now, and I can’t wait to taste it with some age on it. I’m glad I opened one cuz I was debating on backfilling with 1995 vs current release 2000 as they’re the same price. I’m picking up more 2000s…and still backfilling.

what a balla! Wei and I had boba milk tea Friday night.

Jancis was tweeting today about a fabulous bottle of NV but then asked how you could tell the ones that looked the same but weren’t so fab?

I knew I should have hung out with Kim instead of Fu . . . damnit . . .

That’s always going to be true. One guy has 3x the income of the other and opens vintage Krug at a party of mostly strangers and gives them 1/2 glass pours!

Fu is an attorney. It’s the other way around for income! It was most likely 1996 vintage bobo milk tea. I had to have a practice session with my wife on appropriate pour volume to strangers that don’t even finish their pours.

Now you know why I was saying the 2000 was so good at the Telluride Krug tasting! It’s showing REALLY well now…and thanks so much for opening it. It’s nice to have baller friends.

2000 Krug is my Tuesday night sparkler good to see it’s showing well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dr Kim has now cleaned out the OC Total Wine inventory of 2000 Krug. I happened in to the Tustin store 2 mins after he had bought their last bottles; I was told by a clerk that an Asian guy in scubs had just left with what had been left.

You were thinking of buying more Krug to go with your one bottle in your cellar?

You snooze, you lose old man. That’ll teach you to go to a wine store 2 hours after they open. You shoulda camped out like it was black Friday. I gave you fair warning in my OP that I was gonna pick up some more. neener

Dietz works for the government - that’s ‘public worker’ time…

Dietz, you want more 00 Krug? Let me know . . . I got a full warehouse of them.

Not any longer. I’m retired.

forget 00 Krug. That 90 Krug mag is looking awfully tempting for Vegas. Between five of us it’ll be a good price

Would have been cheaper for you to come to Telluride and hang with Olivier.

Just sayin’
