I just stumbled on a Cellar Tracker statistic I haven’t seen discussed before: consumption ranked by producer. For me this is a rather meaningless curiosity, given my uneven habit of recording everyday wines. But I was still mildly surprised by the results:
Puffeney
Luneau-Papin
Infantado – a stand-by, affordable Port; esp popular during a period when I recorded every purchase
Every single year I have been on CellarTracker, Donnhoff has been #1 for consumption. Selbach-Oster has always been #2 or #3 with Edmunds St. John in the other spot.
I didn’t buy many 2011s from CRB so that slowed down the consumption. Will be trying the 2012 l’arpent rouge on wednesday night and envision buying some if what i hear about it are true.
It was interesting to me that both Cliff and Michael listed organic producers. My top 10, completely reflective of my enthusiasms for both organic viticulture and for Sauternes:
Valle dell’Acate
Chateau Rivelette
Domaine de la Potine
Eric Texier
Azienda Agricola Cos
Domaine Barmes-Buecher
CastellRoig
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey
Chateau Rieussec
Paola Bea
Mine seems to reflect 4 years ago more than today’s active drinking. I haven’t owned any Rhys for a couple years plus and I have 1 btl of Fevre left. I went through the Fevres probably trying to dodge premox before it happended. I’m not actively buying RHYS or Fevre. Billaud Simon, OTOH is a wine I both activelty buy and drink.
Rhys
Fevre
Le Cadeau - sort of my house PN w/ Salmon
Billaud Simon - my fav Chablis producer
Dauvissat - ok, I was hording it until the price jumped about $10 btl. Not buying anymore.
Mt. Eden Vineyards - My other “go to” domestic PN
Michel Arnould - One of my sub $35 “go to” Champagnes
Vilmart ??? Guess I flirted with it for a while
Thivin Cote Broulliy - one of my two “go to” Cru Beaujolais along w/ Chanrion
10 Mugnier - Only buying the Marchale lately but one of my fav Burg producers
I wondered about RHYS being at the top of my CT “consumption by producer report” and found out it was because I sold off my remaining 54 btls in March 2012. Not really “consumption” in my books so kind of a worthless report.
