Consumption, by producer

I just stumbled on a Cellar Tracker statistic I haven’t seen discussed before: consumption ranked by producer. For me this is a rather meaningless curiosity, given my uneven habit of recording everyday wines. But I was still mildly surprised by the results:

  1. Puffeney
  2. Luneau-Papin
  3. Infantado – a stand-by, affordable Port; esp popular during a period when I recorded every purchase
  4. Pépière
  5. C & P Breton
  6. Huet
  7. Brun
  8. Beaucastel
  9. Richaud
  10. Peillot
  11. Coudert

Truth is a strange thing!

  1. Ganevat
  2. Pepiere
  3. Foillard
  4. Huet
  5. Olga Raffault
  1. Doennhoff
  2. Kracher
  3. Pruem
  4. SQN
  5. Ch. d’Yquem
  6. Moet & Chandon
  7. Krug

Pepiere
Baudry
FX Pichler
Keller
Bourdy

No CRB?

Every single year I have been on CellarTracker, Donnhoff has been #1 for consumption. Selbach-Oster has always been #2 or #3 with Edmunds St. John in the other spot.

different strokes for different folks … [cheers.gif]

Twisted Oak
Coleman Nicole
Kaella Winery
Bedrock Wine Co.
Tenuta Sette Ponti
Casanova di Neri
Imagery Estate Winery
Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos
Azienda I Greppi
Concha y Toro

For 2013:

Scherrer
Bedrock
Pegau
Left Foot Charley
Mordoree
Arcadian

I didn’t buy many 2011s from CRB so that slowed down the consumption. Will be trying the 2012 l’arpent rouge on wednesday night and envision buying some if what i hear about it are true.

  1. Vincent Girardin - a function of these getting blown out via Winecommune 5+ years ago
  2. Bedrock - just because;)
  3. Tablas Creek - one of three wineries that started this journey
  4. Modavi - ditto
  5. Keenan - ditto
  6. Williams Selyem - one of the longest runs I’ve had on a list
  7. Turley - ditto
  8. Anderson Conn Valley - I’m a sucker for the Reserve
  9. Domaine Matrot - another cheap burg on closeout
  10. Bernard Morey - ditto

I have to say I’m surprised by this list!

Larkmead
Scherrer
Ch. Pesquie
Monsanto
Ridge

It was interesting to me that both Cliff and Michael listed organic producers. My top 10, completely reflective of my enthusiasms for both organic viticulture and for Sauternes:

Valle dell’Acate
Chateau Rivelette
Domaine de la Potine
Eric Texier
Azienda Agricola Cos
Domaine Barmes-Buecher
CastellRoig
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey
Chateau Rieussec
Paola Bea

Not too surprising:

  1. Truchot
  2. Bachelet
  3. Trimbach
  4. Jadot
  5. Selbach-Oster
  6. Grivot

Roulot
Pegau
Piuze
Fevre
Pepiere

Carlisle (249 bottles)
Copain (186 bottles)
Novy Family Wines (175 bottles)
Melville (113 bottles)
Kosta Browne (79 bottles)

More “truth”, as I see it from this cool data point, is that I have not really bought nor drank any Melville or KB in quite some time.

  1. Huet
  2. Foreau
  3. Beaucastel
  4. C.V.N.E.
  5. Chave
  6. Bodegas Riojanas
  7. Baumard
  8. Pegau
  9. Lopez de Heredia
  10. Ridge

Mine seems to reflect 4 years ago more than today’s active drinking. I haven’t owned any Rhys for a couple years plus and I have 1 btl of Fevre left. I went through the Fevres probably trying to dodge premox before it happended. I’m not actively buying RHYS or Fevre. Billaud Simon, OTOH is a wine I both activelty buy and drink.

  1. Rhys
  2. Fevre
  3. Le Cadeau - sort of my house PN w/ Salmon
  4. Billaud Simon - my fav Chablis producer
  5. Dauvissat - ok, I was hording it until the price jumped about $10 btl. Not buying anymore.
  6. Mt. Eden Vineyards - My other “go to” domestic PN
  7. Michel Arnould - One of my sub $35 “go to” Champagnes
  8. Vilmart ??? Guess I flirted with it for a while
  9. Thivin Cote Broulliy - one of my two “go to” Cru Beaujolais along w/ Chanrion
10 Mugnier - Only buying the Marchale lately but one of my fav Burg producers

I wondered about RHYS being at the top of my CT “consumption by producer report” and found out it was because I sold off my remaining 54 btls in March 2012. Not really “consumption” in my books so kind of a worthless report.

  1. DRC
  2. Dujac
  3. Haut Brion
  4. Vogue
  5. Ch. Latour
  6. G. Conterno
  7. Screaming Eagle
  8. Grange (tie)
  9. SQN
  10. Gaja
