I got the CG long ago but haven’t kept up. What do you folks think?
Never a subscriber, but loved their guide books. They used to publish an updated version every few years. Last one was in 1998.
Long time subscriber (about 20 years), now just on-line. I learned long ago my palate aligned well with theirs, so I was always able to rely on the ratings. I also liked the fact that they published negative as well as positive reviews.
That being said, I’ll probably let the subscription lapse after this year. They focus primarily on wines I rarely drink these days (Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot and Zinfandel), they are no longer exclusively California/West Coast (it’s impossible to put their occasional reviews of wines from other countries in perspective, so they are without value), and they seem to pick a strange mix of wines to review, such that some obvious ones are missing and very obscure ones are reviewed.
