You are a pervert, Serge! (And I’m sure you’ll take that as the compliment intended.)
Renato Ratti died about 20 years ago, so he’s unlikely to be offended. He was an important pioneer in single vineyard bottling in the Langhe.
I’m curious where you got your bottles. Reading the other reviews on CT, it would seem your bottles received much better treatment.
Thank you for the compliment and recognition, Ken!
We all got our bottles from the same place - Chamber Street Wine. The difference between their bottle and my 6 bottles (2 purchases) is that mine were shipped to FL, went thru “bottle shock” and were put to rest for months.
I didn’t ask my tasting partners if they liked the wine I brought, I never do that, but I asked the question:
“How many years do your think this wine has left”?
None of them were aware of the CT TN’s and responses varied between 5 and 15 years.
This is not my first Ratti. 1964 we finished lat year was a bit austere, but still far from dead.
I just happen to like his style and the way his wines age.
Serge - Putting together a wine list for New Year’s Eve, and I’m focusing on Barolo / Barbaresco. We prefer the traditionalists like Giuseppe (and Bartolo, of course) Mascarello. Any recs on, er, findable older vintages of traditional producers?
Evan, my number one source for aged Barolo, and I prefer the old school myself as well, is your neighbor Chamber Street Wines

Duly noted and thanks, Serge.
