Larry Schaffer’s inaugural lineup demonstrates his passion for Rhone varietals and Central Coast grapes. Cuvee Christie, named for his wife, is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre that is full of cherry and berry flavors. Schaffer, who is also a winemaker at Fess Parker, named his brand after the dorm area at UC, Dais, where he and his wife met.

Kudos to Larry. If you spend any time talking with Larry, you can see why he is noted as one of the emerging California Rhone producers. He has the passion and dedication to produce the best wines each year and he is always willing to host or set up tastings in the area.
Also worth noting in the article, 8 of the 10 mentioned as emerging Rhone producers to watch are from Santa Barbara or Paso Robles. Not only are these wineries making great wines, but they do it at a fine QPR.
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the kind words - very humbling indeed!
A couple of things:
Segundo did NOT rock when we were there as undergrads - too big, too crazy . . . oh heck, maybe it DID rock?!?!?!?
Cheryl, I’ve been married for a number of years - it truly is the least I can do for having my wife put up with me
Mike- thanks for the message. I truly honestly LOVE talking to people about wine, food, etc . . . just talking! And I love to help people explore our area - I agree with Mike that we really are leading the charge down here with regards to rhone varieties, at QPR prices . . . . and all I can say is wait until you taste the 07’s from the region - upping the ante quite a bit!
That was a pic taken when I spoke at a syrah symposium a few years back . . . and NO, the hair was NOT pulled back, just short. What can I say - I like change . . . . (but NOT as dramatically as Mickey Rourke
