Cigars and wine - why don't they mix?

I have a couple of ex’s in TX you want to steer clear of too.

Regardless of how well they pair together, they are often fun to consume together (though I prefer spirits or fortified wines)

For cigar lovers that drink wine- CigarBQ is next week in Saralees’ Vineyard.

Paired well or not, it should be pretty fun…

Cigars with Sauternes…it works (Thanks Michel)

I thought it was Cubana neener !

Either Serge meant the sandwich or…not that there’s anything wrong with that. [gheyfight.gif]

anyone else see this new wine cigar?

I am tempted to try it but likely not offered here in Hawaii.

I think I can find better cigar options out there for $32.50 per stick. (I assume if they did have them in HI, it would be more $ than that)

Brandy, port and rum seem to work for me. Maybe it’s to do with the perceived sweetness of those beverages?

But I’m curious if we have any ENT-types hanging around who can explain to me the science of why the cigars always create this problem. For me, it brings out the acidity in the wine and smothers most of the fruit.[quote]

Jay, in addition to my earlier post and in the FWIW category, women generally have a much more acute olfactory sense than men and therefore have a better perception of ppms as it relates to corkiness, brett and VA in wines. This is why I yield to my wife when she picks up a wine`s flaw because she perceives it much more readily than I do.

I suspect (guess) that tar and other smoke constituents, like very fine particles, collect on the olfactory nerve endings in your nasal and sinus passages, impeding their ability to handle aromatic compounds.

Without clear and clean detection of wine aromatics, it may taste angular.
