Tonight’s dinner was Churro lamb loin and shoulder chops, grilled outside on our Weber, and seasoned with garlic, mesquite seasoning, and Meyer lemon olive oil. They were grilled to a nice medium rare; three to four min per side. Veggie was baby green peas with garlic and rosemary; finished with butter, coarse sea salt, and black pepper. Wine was a fruity 1997 Ridge Syrah Lytton Springs - fill a cm below the capsule; dark, dense ruby in color; bright nose and flavors of spicy, complex dark berries; full, balanced mid-palate with good acidity and mostly resolved tannins; with a long, complex fruity finish. The wine was much more fruity and forward than the color would have indicated. It was quite enjoyable with the rich lamb.
Then for dessert while watching Chef Peter (our old friend Peter Ryter, now deceased) on DVD we had our usual TJ’s Chocolate bars with a delightful 1983 Cockburn’s Port - rich complex fruit that was quite good with the chocolates and maybe even better with something else.
