Christmas lunch with Mérida wine group

I hosted the wines at my buddy’s place on the beach. Whole group of eight enjoyed a few hours together. Always amazed by the beach being less humid than the city! It was WA St wine day, until the French Rhônes uncorked at night.

2022 L’Ecole Sémillion and Stillwater Creek Sémillion were very well received by the whole group. One of the two certified sommeliers has the appellation wine on lists he created down here and preferred that wine yesterday. Aromatics of the SV wine are intense and incredible.

2018 Kobayashi Viognier was enjoyed with fish served both Pesca Frito and La Plancha. One of the two sommeliers again didn’t love this wine, feeling it lacked acidity. I loved it with the fish.

2020 Cayuse Camaspelo was overdecanted by yours truly and was just too round and flabby. We had this with Serrano Jamon.

2015 JB Neufield Old Goat saved the day and was adored by all. Near perfect new-world Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of ooohs and aaahs. Got to figure out how to get more down here.

Long group discussion about visiting W2 for wine trip but two in group recently denied visas to USA. Honestly had no idea they could not visit with just their passports.

Are these wines available in Merida or you ship from the states?

No idea why folks with passports shouldn’t be welcome as tourists, what a shame, not to mention a drag on our economy.

BTW my wife and I love Merida, been a few times, cool place.
