Christmas Eve wines: Billiot & Foillard

A quiet night at home w/ the wife & kids. Local dry-aged steaks, oven frites & green salad. Follow-up was truffle popcorn while we watched Wall-e on the new TV & Blu-ray player. I dig the high def!

2002 H. Billiot Brut: Great Pinot character. Some brioche. Minerality to burn. Great wine. We drank this while preparing dinner & again w/ the truffle popcorn- a match made in heaven.

2006 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Puy Oh. My. God. This wine has a nose to absolutely die for. Flowers, exotic spices (cardamon?), & subtle red fruits. Nice density. Needs time, but really enjoyable now.

I had this with pizza a couple of nights ago.
It convinces me again that Beaujolais might be the best pizza wine there is.

I think that Champagne is the greatest pizza wine there is, but Beaujolais is high on my list too.

Damn, I missed the 06 Foillard. I was so busy hunting down the last of the 05 Beaujolais that the 06 was come and gone before I knew it.

Speaking of Billiot, had the 96 recently? I’ve just got a couple, and wasn’t really planning on opening one soon.
