Christmas Eve Luncheon Buffet at Quail Run

Yesterday Sue & Dick Daniels invited us to join them for the special Christmas Eve Buffet Lunch at Quail Run. When we got there Sue & Dick were already at the bar; Sue had a Bloody Mary and Dick had a glass of Chardonnay. We then were seated at our table, Carollee had a Bloody Mary, while Dick and I shared a bottle of Schramberg Brut, light and enjoyable. with good mousse. When Sue & Carollee had finished their drinks, we went into the food room and began to select our choices. I had cold salmon and smoked trout from the fish table, a bowl of red chile meatball soup, asparagus with Parmagiano & onions, and a beet salad to start. The trout was very good, the salmon was a little bland. The meatballs in the soup were tasty, but red chile wasn’t in evidence. The asparagus was quite nice and the beet salad was tasty even though the beets were a bit overcooked. Then I went back for more! I tried the standing rib roast, some dry sausage, the potatoes Lyonnaise, and some more smoked trout. By then we were ready for more Champagne, so we got a bottle of Bollinger Brut - richer and tastier than the Schramsberg, with a good mousse. After all that, I wasn’t interested in the dessert table. I did, however, try a couple bite of Carollee’s - chocolate cake, mascarpone, & whipped cream and a rich vanilla ice cream. Then Carollee & I each had a short-pull double espresso, while Sue & Dick each finished with a cup of coffee. Then we left for home, quite satiated. We didn’t need anything in the evening, we were still quite full.

Sue & Dick will be joining us for Christmas dinner, later this afternoon.
