Chicken: White meat or Dark?

Do you prefer White or Dark Chicken Meat?

I will grudgingly eat white meat but would patronize a place that ONLY sold legs and thighs three days a week!

If given the choice…dark meat. Thighs are much better than legs which are much better than wings which are much better than breasts.

Of course this only applies to chicken…

Tex, just to continue your ranking: I used to play in a band with a guy from Trinidad who would tell the story of how, growing up in a very large family, he always got the ASS of the Sunday chicken (that was the only day they got ANY chicken) with his rice and beans. Then his oldest brother got married and moved out so he got the NECK and was so happy he nearly cried…

White chicken and turkey meat is only good in sandwiches. For a normal meal I’d much rather have dark meat.

Lucky for me, I married a breast man. I get the thighs all to myself. He has been slightly converted and does buy packages of thighs at Sam’s Club or the grocery and prepares jerk chicken with them on occasion.

Ok, I will say white meat/breast… My current favorite chicken fix is Zankou…

gotta be dark meat…I really don’t like chicken breasts…the occasional wing is fine, but thighs are the best

Almost exclusively White/Breast. Of course…only thighs for braising.

I used to work for a poultry company til about 7 yrs ago. Our biggest customers for dark meat was Russia and Japan. I would say 75% of our Dark meat went to them. We had a hell of a time selling it in the states. I could buy a 40 lb box of leg quartes for about $9 anytime of the year.

I prefer dark over white any day. MUCH more flavor in my opinion.

Much better texture too. And that little pocket of marrow when you break apart a thigh is to die for…
