Chicago Retailer Recommendation: Plum Market

I’m a relatively new poster here, so glad to join the discussion!

For those in Chicago, I wanted to recommend Plum Market (1233 N. Wells St) in Old Town as a retailer worth checking out if you’re in the area. They have a small, but very well curated selection of wines, including some smaller producers that you can’t find on the shelves of Binny’s.

For example, I’ve found interesting bottles on their shelves including Gonon St Joseph, Jura wines from Bourdy and Puffeney, Baudry Chinon, Janasse CDR and CDP, as well as a solid selection of German/Alsatian rieslings and grower champagne. They also have a helpful staff (particularly Sean and Anthony) to point you toward the hidden gems.

Prices are generally reasonable, although some wines can certainly be found for cheaper online. They also have a nice wine bar toward the front with a pretty decent by-the-glass selection.

Thanks, Eric. I haven’t stoppen in the Chicago store, but I do visit their store in Bloomfield Hills, MI when I’m in SE Michigan visiting my family. Can almost always find something of interest.

And I’ve been buying wine from the Jonna family for close to 40 years (principally from the old Merchant of Vino)

Tell Anthony I said hello. He used to be at the West Bloomfield Plum. They are an excellent market/wine store. Madeline Triffon heads up the wine department and does a great job. I have known her for almost 40 years.

Will have to check it out but my personal favorite wine shop in Chicago is Vin Chicago (formerly Wine Discount Center) on Elston, best prices and super knowledgeable staff. Check it out if you have never been.

Has anyone tried any of Plum’s wine events? I get notices of them but haven’t made it yet.
