Chicago restaurants - what did I miss?

. [swoon.gif]

I’m afraid you did, Serge. Despite its reputation for steak, there are no great steak houses in Chicago. Many many better places than where you went, I’m afraid.

Not Wilfred but:

Alinea
Boku
Naha
Custom House
The Bristol
Schwa (tough to get in)

there is only one restaurant on your list that I would even think of going to and that is Naha…a great lunch… Michael and Carrie Nahabedian, who run the place, are the tops and the place is great… as for the others, they wouldn’t be on my radar if I were starving… good places, off the top of my head…

blackbird, nomi, avec, bristol, mado, alinea, L20, custom house, cafe des architectes, 160 blue, publican, terzo piano, spiaggia, cibo matto, schwa, katsu, sepia, province, the gage, boka, perennial… ok, I am done…

Well, we’re certainly no Boca. blush

This is a terrific eating town. You have a good start from our locals above. Post next time you are in the neighborhood and we’ll pile on

I went to Bristol with some o’ dah boys here and thought the meal was spectacular. When in Chicago again, I’ll definitely go back

Scott’s list is excellent … I would add Topolobampo to that. A marvelous place. I would add a note of caution on Custom House because it’s been rather inconsistent the last several months.

You’re kidding, right Wilfred? Don’t tell me you think NYC has a great steakhouse then [rofl.gif]

And Hot Dougs
flirtysmile

will be there saturday night and some how have to narrow down to one restaurant. Of course once again Hot Doug’s is closed for vacation when i am in town

I can hook you up at The Bristol if you like… http://www.thebristolchicago.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oh for sure … I actually have become someone who won’t pay my own cash money for a steak out because I much, much prefer the results I can get at home. So many places don’t even live up to Costco prime, in my estimation. Very good thing to point out!

agreed. used to always go out for steak. No i always order duck

Although Schwa is very difficult to get in, I’ve heard good things about it.

Chicago Tour of wine

Yes. Outside of Naha I would not have gone to any one of those places. Really a crappy sample of what Chicago has to offer.

You say steaks are the least of your concern but you go to 2 steak houses and then proclaim Chicago is not a culinary mecca. [scratch.gif]

Go to any of the above recs and then get back to us.

Serge-

You did miss all of the good places in town, except for Naha. I do not think Chicago is on par with NY or SF, but very close.

Stange to me that you think steak is best at home, and then go to 2 steak places.

Strange that suddenly peeps are responding to the orginal as though it wasn’t a year earlier. [smileyvault-ban.gif]

Oooops never looked at the date of the OP. I blame it on trose who resurrected the thread. Damn first time posters [snort.gif]

“Trose”? You must sport a Chicago accent.
In Noo Yawk, we say “Dees” or “Youse”.

Victor, I think he meant “doze”.
