I’ve enjoyed the Office downstairs below the Aviary. Small, not cheap, but they used to have a good cocktail program.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for sushi/japanese around river north? Bonus points for corkage friendly. Thanks!
Not sushi, but we enjoy Gaijin, an okonomayaki restaurant in the Fulton Market district helmed by a great chef who has been doing restaurants around town for decades. Fun and casual. Never tried to BYOB, but it’s worth a call.
A couple of blocks east is Momotaro, a sushi and robota restaurant, with an izakaya in the basement. Higher end upstairs. Haven’t been there for years, but last time I BYO’d
There are a bunch of other sushi restaurants in both neighborhoods, but I don’t have experiences with them
Roka Akor, although a small chain, has always impressed me with the food. Centrally located in river North. I want to say they have corkage too, but may need to check with the management on that…
Alinea totally redoing their menu… interesting.
Has anyone been to Bar Berria in Logan Square?
no but intrigued
Are you watching Top Chef?
Yes. I think I might grab a couple tickets for July. Looks like it’s BYOB.
Yes. Uninspiring food. Went home hungry and so ate Chipotle afterwards. Save your money.
Crap, I bought tickets this afternoon. That same thing happened when I got the omakase at Joto Sushi last year. I was starving on the way home.
I went almost 1 year ago. Menu could have changed. I’d be curious to see if it’s gotten better. Please let us know!
Top Chef Season 23 Spoiler:
Sieger acted like a total ass when he got eliminated (the second time). I really wish I hadn’t prepaid for a ticket.
Smyth ranked #1.
It’s been a number of years, but for the life of me, I just don’t get the hype around Smythe. I’ll go to Oriole and Ever ten times out of ten before going back to Smythe. What am I missing?
“It’s been a number of years” is probably what’s missing.
I don’t know of anyone in Chicago, personally, who mentions Ever. Not to say it doesn’t have its fans–I just don’t know of any, personally. The Chef has left the kitchen. The nickname among my friends for it is Never. In contrast everyone speaks glowingly of Smyth.
Are you saying Curtis Duffy is no longer the chef? Or?
Oh my god. That was one of the worst Top Chef exits ever!
Oh I would 100% go to Smyth over oriole, oriole is a shadow of its former self.
