checking a box of wine with Southwest (worst)

It’s a little anal, but strips of newspaper work great to wedge the bottles in a little tighter so there’s virtually no rattling inside the styrofoam. Not sure why I bother, except that I truly do expect gorillas to hurl the box around before it arrives. Never had a hassle with UA or AA, ever. My wife has a 6 pack styro box inside a shoulder bag that has been translatlantic over a dozen times. Never an issue.

Over the years, I’ve adopted my wife’s trick of packing everything (non-wine luggage) in plastic bags, inside the suitcases. If our baggage gets left out in the pouring rain, or someone else wasn’t careful packing/handling a case of wine…no problem.

Wait a second, what about travel shock??!!??

I take six bottles to Sitka every year on Alaska Airlines. Packed in styrofoam shippers. Never had any hassles or problems.

I was just being a smartass. I take wine every flight I go on, and it’s always fine. I guess others perceive different results, but I’ve been lucky never to have a problem.

i had the same issue.

they took the twelve out and bagged them back into the box.

they then tried to make me sign a waiver and i refused and said you boxed it, you break it, you pay for it.

it was purchased with a CC that had insurance so i was not worried.

it was rather silly to take something that was well packed and do a shit job of it where it is more likely to suffer damage.

I fly sw a lot…really, a lot. Lost count of how many times I have taken wine…even taken 3 bottles in one of those zip up shoulder bags. Never once had a question or an issue.

Just got my companion pass for the 5 year in a row…I fly too much
