2005 Des Laurets
This sleeper of the vintage is a newcomer for me. The 2005 exhibits plenty of sweet berry fruit, cedar, spice box, and licorice characteristics, medium body, silky tannins, and a beautiful mouthfeel. Consume it over the next 4-5 years.
The last wine to come out of nowhere and garner a review like that in WA was … Sierra Carche.
I once had a 1967 Chateau Lafitte, so this is not a new problem.
Bottled for the European market back during the Cultural Revolution, when China was not a major consumer of fine wines.
Murderous stuff. At least this dude thinks so:
Tasted by Cellar_Fiend on 8/29/2009 & rated 91 points: The colour of this wine is incredible I can taste the rich fruit just by looking at it. Excellent nose of dark berries and cedar. On the palate the wine rolls in the mouth with round tannins after only an hour decant. The Merlot is obvious and delectable. The fruit is incredible and tied with cedar and classic cigar. The finish is at least 15 seconds long.
And I know we have been through the stopwatch finish discussion, but amongst those that value a long finish, when is 15 seconds something to brag about?
LMFAO!!! I AM Cellar_Fiend!!! (Also known by that handle on the WS boards). How do you think I knew what label they stole the wine from so easily? The real wine was and continues to be, one of the best values in wine I have ever purchased (no shit!). Too funny!
