I have just learned that Charles Roy, owner of Roy Estate Winery in Napa, has passed away at the age of 73.
Having visited with Shirley and Charles in Soda Canyon and having met them in NY on numerous occasions, Charles was one of the nicest people in the wine business that I had come across. Maybe it was because he only recently got into the wine business?
Anyways, Philippe Melka has been making OUTSTANDING wines at this property for a few years and I hope that the tradition lives on. I drank a 2005 Red Wine back in October, and it was just off the charts.
We will miss you, Charles.
