Champagne Labeling Question ????

Last night we went to a second round champagne tasting and I noticed one of the bottles did not have an NM, RM, or CM number code at all. I thought there was a requirement to show a NM, RM, or CM designation…is that not the case? The bottle was a Robert Moncuit NV Grand Cru…Thank you, Gary

Gary,

Are you sure it wasn’t hidden somewhere on a label? It is a requirement for it to be there, but if it wasn’t there I am sure there is a logical explanation. I have seen cases where it has been left off due to labeling mishaps between producer and importer or just labeling mishaps in general. Miscommunication and “stuff happens” can occur.

I have also seen that on occasion. Oh, Robert Moncuit is RM.

What is a “second round Champagne tasting”?

It’s what takes place after the first round. [wink.gif]

Never heard of it either…

Thank you for the replies. I looked everywhere on the label and I know they can be miniscule print so I put magnifying reading glasses on. Second round means that we just completed champagnes 7-12 this past Wednesday. On the previous Wednesday we did champagnes 1-6. All were tasted at Frizzante Wine Bar & Speakeasy in North Stonington CT. Very nice tasting and they have tapas plates for $5 each. Next Wednesday is chocolate and old world reds. Except for the Champagne tasting all tastings on Wednesday are free.
