We have been pre-selling these for a little over a month and they are set to arrive next week! If you looked at or look back at a lot of the posts in IG/FB/IG from last month’s La Fete du Champagne CALSAC was a first for many and was one of the buzziest names pouring there! We have been selling the wines for almost 3 years now with good quantity finally coming consistently.

We have a nice look at rising champagne star Etienne Calsac’s newest batch of champagnes. These are bright, exhilarating champagnes from one of the most promising young talents in Champagne. We are also US low on bottle one of each wine and very generous on the pack deals for each of these!

In 2010, at the age of 26, Etienne Calsac decided to take control of his grandparents’ three hectares of vineyards scattered in and around Avize, which had previously been rented out to the grandes maisons. Chez Calsac, stewardship of the terroir is the basis for great Champagne, so Etienne set out to ensure that all the vineyards are planted with grass cover crops, plowed, and transitioned to organic farming.

The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs L’Échappée Belle was harvested in the Sézannais and the Marne Valley (and 1er Grauves). A sense of white pepper on white miso makes for a spicy nose, appetizing and bright. The palate is vivid with youthful mousse, foaming through the slender white wine. There is lemony verve, apple freshness and lively brightness, almost zesty on the dry finish. This is very enlivening and super bright. Dosage is 4gr/L. - By Antonio Galloni on October 2023

100% Chardonnay
Dosage: Brut Nature (0g/L)
‘L’Echappée Belle’ translates to ‘The Great Escape.’ 70% of the base wine comes from one vintage and 30% from reserve wines. Vineyard sources are a majority from the 1er Cru village of Grauves in the Cote des Blancs, known for its cooler microclimate, plus some from theCôte de Sézanne and the Marne. The Grauves vineyards were planted by Etienne’s grandparents, who are both from the village. The perpetual reserve wine for this cuvée goes back to 2011. About 25% of the wines see used neutral oak and 75% stainless steel vats. Full malolactic fermentation. Aged on fine lees in bottle 18-24 months before disgorgement.

91 pts Vinous (Galloni)
The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Rocheforts Premier Cru was picked in the eponymous parcel in Bisseuil in the Marne Valley. A creamy, nutty and slightly smoky nose portrays ripe Golden Delicious apple. The palate is vivid with apple freshness and a juiciness that unites ripe apple flesh with lemony crunch and vigor. Frothy mousse is energetic and swings lemon about, there is something deeply satisfying about the briskness and clean-cut tautness of this wine, despite all its youthfulness. Dosage is 2gr/L. By Antonio Galloni on October 2023

100% Chardonnay
Dosage: Brut Nature (0g/L)
Les Rocheforts translates to ‘the strong rocks.’ In 2012, Etienne started a separate perpetual reserve just for Les Rocheforts. This 1er cru single-vineyard in Bisseuil sits on pure chalk soils and creates a precise and beautifully expressive Blanc de Blancs (produced with 25% reserve wine). About 50% of the wines see used neutral oak and 50% stainless steel vats. Full malolactic fermentation. Aged on fine lees in bottle 18-24 months before disgorgement.
