Received an email today from Ceritas regarding the release of two of their 2010 vintage wines: Heintz chardonnay and Annabelle pinot noir. Has anyone tried these?
Tasted both at this Monday’s “In Pursuit of Balance” tasting in San Francisco. The 2010 Annabelle Vineyard Pinot had a spicy red fruit profile and loads of acidity. The 2010 Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay was one of the top 2-3 Chardonnays I tasted at the event, bright and citrusy, and also with great acidity.
I too was at the IPOB in SF on Monday. Both the '10 Heintz and Annobelle were incredible. Will be buying!
Ceritas = no brainer purchase for me.
Tasted both at IPOB on Monday. I really thought John’s wines were the best in the room (of those I tasted - Mount Eden, Copain, Kutch, Anthill, Cobb, Peay, Ceritas, Tyler, Ojai, Calera). The Chards alone were definite standouts. Jamie’s lineup and the 2008 Mount Eden were the only pure contenders for me.
As for the Annabelle, tons of acid. Gonna have to sit on that bottle for a while. 3-4 years out, when you pop the cork, you’ll be ecstatic. Great structure, didn’t offer much nose at all.
Will definitely be buying the Chards. Ceritas, along with Cameron, is at the top of my list for that varietal.
I’ve never tried their Pinot, I think mainly due to the fact that I know I’ll like it and will then just have to add another Pinot to my buy list.
What wines were Copain and Kutch pouring?
Nice to get the feedback. I’m in every year for the Porter-Bass chardonnay and the Escarpa pinot noir, but I was a bit less enamored with the Richie chardonnay, hence my curiosity. Thanks! Sounds like I need to pick up some of each of these new releases.
Was at the IPOB tasting in SF as well. Thought the 2010 Ceritas Heintz Chardonnay was one of the better whites at the tasting, a gorgeous wine, rich, meyer lemon, good balance. The Porter-Bass Chardonnay reminded me of the 2009 Ritchie, but more oyster shell and power, thought it also showed well!
Jamie was pouring the 2009 Falstaff (which was showing really well), the 2009 McDougal and the 2010 McDougal. Strong across the board.
Copain was serving up all 2009’s - Wentzel, Monument Tree and Kiser En Haut. The En Haut was clearly the standout there, I wasn’t really moved by the other 2 which is unfortunate as I bought some. Off topic, the pours at this table were about as liberal as it gets for this kind of tasting. Had I consumed all I was poured, I might have had 1.5 glasses of wine just there. Maybe a little too liberal if thats possible.
Thanks Lance!
