Still haven’t settled on what to open. Almost afraid to look any further, to be honest.
I keep inventory in excel, and store about 75% of my wine at Horse Ridge Cellars. I have had a five-bottle discrepancy (not in my favor) between my list and HRC’s for a while, but it will be a brutal effort to find and correct.
Otherwise some pretty nice bottles I’ve recently been unable to find here or there.

I did a mini-inventory and discovered some disappointing vacancies. Years of inconsistent logging finally caught up with me. Between bottles I drank, donated, gifted, sold or traded, the missing value is more than my annual wine budget. I should probably have my CellarTracker privileges revoked.

Where this all gets nasty is in Restaurant World, where MIA bottles can lead to speculation and accusations of theft and substance abuse–threatening careers and opening rifts among owners, managers, and staff–not to mention propagating sales tax issues and accounting headaches. One of the more important but less pleasant aspects of a cellar manager’s job. The solution is a combination of excellent communications, trust where it is warranted, a high level of professionalism, excellent organization, and flawless inventory control.

2 missing bottles upset me this morning. If it were as many as you noted I might sink into a full-on depression!
I love your sentiment about wine being made for sharing rather than counting.
A friend used to run a wine shop, at which he had a habit of writing tasting notes on the large table when there was a tasting event.
He was doing a stock take and couldn’t locate a bottle of (iirc) Ch. Palmer. He looked everywhere, checking all the racks, boxes, etc. before giving up and sitting down at the table. As he did so, he glanced down and saw a TN in his own handwriting on the table, for that very bottle of wine. Another victim of the “let’s just grab a bottle off the shelf to finish (non-sober) mindset”.
This hits a bit too close to home. 
This thread is making me feel a lot better about my inventory failures.
My worst should probably be a 2012 Cayuse that I haven’t marked as MPD, because I’m still holding out hope, but it’s time — it’s been elusive for a good two or three years at this point. Maybe, some day, I’ll find it in an offsite box in the back corner of the locker.
After that, it’s a 1985 Dow’s VP. That one is more surprising than it is disappointing, on account of the fact that I don’t think we drink even 1 bottle of VP per year, on average, yet I still had no recollection of drinking this one.

There’s only one bottle for me: 03 Overnoy Vieux Savagnin.
I went through every case in my lockers. Not there. I purchased two bottles when I was in France in 2014. I know when I drank one, but for the life of me I can’t recall drinking the second bottle. It only comes in 500ml bottles with a wax capsule so it’s not like it’s a bottle that could remain hidden!
I may have solved the mystery of my six missing bottles of 2008 Dom Pérignon. It looks like the black cardboard case may hold 12 bottles rather than 6. Can anyone confirm how many bottles those cases hold? I’d rather not excavate it from beneath several other cases and open it just to find out. Thanks!
Missing a few bottles of Almaviva from Chile, but that was back when I was first using Cellartracker and had to upload a #&^! of bottles.
Some of you are missing some serious stuff. I am just hoping I can find everything buried when I do want to drink a bottle.
I have a bunch of bottles in my CellarTracker that I know are gone, but I don’t want to admit it to myself yet so I just let them stay there
2 x 1996 Salon, purchased on release, went missing from my storage. The storage company reimbursed the current approximate value, but I won’t buy 30 year old Champagne in the marketplace, not knowing where it’s been or how it’s been stored. Grrr. Sometimes money damages are insufficient. I’m not real happy about it.

I just found out I have 1 more bottle of 1990 La Tache than I thought. 
Makes up for the missing bottle each of Haut Brion Blanc and Hommage a Jean Morin CV.
And I wasn’t prompted by this thread to find it - I was tracking down 2016 Bordeaux for the virtual tasting later this month….
one bottle I was sure I still had until my home cellar moved to offsite in Florida. Drank one bottle never remember drinking a second and no pictures to document this kind of bottle.
