CellarTracker Beta and Food Tags

Rather than PMing Eric, I thought I would throw this out for public consumption…

I usually use the old CT, but I checked out the new beta and noticed the “food tags” where I would input my suggested food pairings as I input wine data. Cool feature I think, but I was in a rush so I didn’t do it for that particular wine. So later, I thought I’d use it and went back in to search my cellar for wines to go with a particular food. I input a search string but no wines came up. I tried “steak” with no results, then “beef” with no results. It appears that the food tags are not a global thing that follows the wine across the universe of users, but rather stays with your individual cellar.

So, to Eric…is this user error or a design choice or a toggled setting that I need to change?

And to other Users…what do you think would be helpful to you?

If you search around the beta forum, that’s not complete iirc. While the site is very stable there are still big pieces to roll out.

Everytime I pull my 2010 Acura TL into my driveway, the front end scrapes. I’m wondering if Acura has any future design changes in the works to raise the front end of the TL slightly to prevent this. My driveway is not overly steep.

Let’s see if Acura can get this answered here within the next hour.

Sorry, I was busy working on the site, but If you posted in my forum you probably would have had a reply in 5 minutes (as it emails me).

If you just use the search control at upper right you are just searching on wine names. Did you change the focus to Food Pairing Tags? That search is indeed global right now, and I haven’t fully fleshed out the interface details on food tag search.

Chris, can you post the actual search links you were trying?

Basically the toggles are your cellar versus global, fuzzy versus exact tag match, and in-stock versus any wine ever tagged.

BTW, there has not been much usage of this feature yet. Just the other day I shifted the UI a bit so Food Tags appear at the top of Column A on the wine page instead of being below the social stuff (friends with the wine and who like this wine) and also above the Similar Wines box (which is a little slow so now loads asynchronously).

Okay, the second example you have is what I got back when I searched. (no bottles) I suppose it could be that none of the 2000 bottles in my cellar have had the tag “steak” assigned by any user yet. I just thought that wasn’t right.

Just so we are on the same page…I’m gonna have lobster tonight and I’m looking to go to CT and type “lobster” or “seafood” or “shellfish” and have it return a list of 35 bottles in my cellar that 35 different users have assigned one of those tags.

Right now there isn’t a way to just search YOUR cellar with food tags from OTHER users. If you are searching YOUR cellar, it is looking for YOUR food tags. If you are looking globally it is using all food tags. Sorry.

No problem. The program is great as is IMO.

Let me throw this out there for discussion…what if Eric added tags based upon variety and type? He might add “lamb” to all of the CNdP in the database? Folks could customize their tags from his tags. I say this because I am not likely to enter food tags myself. There is no reason for me to add them if I am the only one retrieving this info.
