Cava in Barcelona

Until you try a few high end bottlings from Gramona, those aged 7+ years on the lees, I might put the opinion of who is the top producer on hold. I tasted a few in a blind tasting including some serious Champagnes (Krug, Dom P, Cristal, several others), and the Gramona wines held their own. In fact, a Gramona was my #2 in the whole tasting. Of course, it’s all dependant on your own preferences, but it’s impossible to argue that the quality of those wines isn’t extremely high.

There is a small cava house that’s been very impressive to me. I’ve had a least a dozen bottles. It is called Pere Mata and is imported by Thomas Calder and sold by Garagiste. Hope you can find some in Barcelona.

Cheers,

Hal

Well, at least I had the “for me” part there but I think you are right. I should have expressed my enthusiasm towards this producer in a less definitive way. I think I now have to include a couple of those Gramona wines that you referred to in our next Champagne tasting.
