I had the chance to briefly sample both the '96 and '03 Conti Boca DOC wines tonight, and I’m quite impressed. The '96 had a brilliant acidity that was completely in balance, as the wine itself was well aged, with a silky mouthfeel, long finish, and a mature Italian red wine nose - not like Barolo, but still quite pleasant and interesting.
The '03 was more like Barolo on the nose (the blend is made with Nebbiolo, and two other grapes), and another huge dose of acidity, but still too young. Both of these wines are around $30-40, and I thought both were quite excellent, and would be fantastic with food.
Any experience with these wines?
