Recieved my delivery today and noticed that Mike used corks for his Sonoma County Zin’s.

Totally agree. I would gladly pay a small premium for a screwcap.

I certainly didn’t mind the screw caps, but I might in the end like corks better.
I have noticed that several wineries that tried out screw caps have switched back to corks for reds while leaving the whites under screw caps.

I loved being able to compare the cork and screw cap bottlings of the Carlisle SC Zin. It was interesting to see how they developed differently. I’m certainly a fan of screw caps. I think it’s only a matter of time – probably a lot of time – before they’re the standard. Unless corks can somehow eliminate the possibility of taint.

While I like corks, I dislike bottle variation and premox more than I like corks. Go Team Stelvin. [cheers.gif]

Hey All,

I chatted with Mike about it this morning (he was drinving up from Family Winemakers in Pasadena). He wanted me to say that the reason there was a change was simply that the glass – with a screwcap closure, wasn’t available in time for him to get it in – so he bottled under cork. Changing to a different bottle would have meant a different shaped label, etc…

Is that all it is for you? Or is there a deeper rationale for your preference for cork vs. ScrewCap? Personally my verdict is out until there is more long term data on the long term performance of wine under screw-cap vs. cork, etc. The only non performance related criteria I care about is storage- i.e. if it was determined that it was best to store screw-cap wines vertical vs. horizontal.

You’re right. To be honest I find it a pain in the ass to unscrew the cap because of the arthritis in my wrist. Other than for personal reasons I happen to agree with the many out there. When it comes to either drinking wet cardboard or fruit, I’m going for the latter option.

Sorry to hear about the logistics issue… but glad to hear it wasn’t a move away from screwcaps.
