Carlisle Owners retiring

Siduri was a long time ago, a decade maybe, and an entry into premium Pinot Noir while BC was an entry into premium Chard and Pinot. Very different than Zin, PS, Syrah, Gruner, and White and Red Blends.

Mike makes singular wines that are personal to him and showed his style while showcasing old vine vineyards, I have loved tons of them having bought them for going on 20 years, his whites are still under-rated.

Not disagreeing with any of that at all . . .

Cheers

FWIW Zabaco is gone and Ravenswood has been sunset until they rework the brand with the idea of bringing it back to its Joel glory with a focus on single vineyards and not just Lodi bulk (however daunting and aspirational a task).

They won’t be able to.

Once you go down and dilute the name it has to be near impossible to bring it back to its former
Glory.

Constellation killed the brand, probably worth a try to revive it, it’ll never be what it was, but a fraction of the success is probably a win.

Whatever happened to Rabbit Ridge. They used to make a variety of Zins

No. They devalued it. If they had mothballed it maybe, but they turned it to crap.

Started selling all their wines to Trader Joe’s as a pseudo-PL.

I get it, my point is they have plenty of avenues into Zin, IF they ever want back in. All those labels will suffice with everyday consumers over Carlisle.

100% agree, I think Carlisle has a home somewhere, but finding a suitable steward is more daunting than anything.

How do you expect Mike and Kendall to survive if that’s all you own? A man’s and his wife gotta eat.

Nine and a half years ago, I sold Siduri to JFW – so a decade was pretty damn good guess.

To be fair I think you sold it right after we were at the Waterfront Seafood Grill in Seattle tasting your wines with The Estates Group after I asked you to let us sell them in WA, particularly the AVA wines and mostly the WV Pinot!

Hope you are well buddy!

Anyone concerned about the Millennials and GenZ having zero interest in wine? The anti-alcohol movement seems to be strong with this demographic.

Please provide data showing that.

Their into cocktails

And so are increasingly boomers.

Shocked at the news…but feeling nothing but gratitude and extreme happiness for Mike/family/crew. Just put together a mixed case of zin (and if my wife checks I’m in deep shit because I’m buying nothing new and that’s my story). Current have 154 bottles of Carlisle in off-site storage. Started buying in 2006 and have consumed at least 100 bottles with not a single ā€œdisappointmentā€ in memory. Congratulations and a small wistful tear are in order for a life well-lived and a strong pulsing commitment to the same strange love we share. I’ll be popping a lot of Carlisle for the rest of the summer…not least because they taste so frigging great with anything grilled. Here’s to you, Mike. Nothing but thankful respect.
