Carillon Bienvenue Batard Vertical and a "fake" btl of Red Burgundy!

I’ve had a lot of old Potinet-Ampeau over the last few years. They all taste as described, and I enjoy them very much. The thing is that they really aren’t very good, and that anyone who pays a lot for them is silly. I can’t begin to imagine that anyone would fake them.

I think that the big problem here is not if this bottle of Potinet-Ampeau fake or real but that this doesn’t drink the way a 40 year old bottle of wine should (therefore the idea that it was fake). It is because of this that those of us at the dinner felt it wasn’t right. If this is the practice of the domaine then so be it, but it really is a disservice to the wine drinking community that is opting to try and drink old wine for the experience. If I want to drink a 10 year old bottle of Volnay there are plenty of wines out there that are better then this and I am sure at half the price.

That said it was a great evening and an experience that as other board members have stated is very rare to taste a flight of Carillon Bienvenue Batard at one sitting with friends who enjoy wine.
