This is interesting. I need to experiment with some “Pine Nut Play”.
I’m not sure if it would work because not everything was ruined of flavor. I can’t remember for sure but I think salty things still held their flavors.
Where it could work effectively however is as a way to end the addiction to carbonated beverages, particularly with children and soda. When you have pine nut mouth these beverages taste horrible. And since it lasts for weeks many people give them up. If someone could create a pill that recreates that taste (temporarily) to give someone while they drink soda then maybe they would never want to drink them again!?!
I had this from some pine nuts from Sams. Not a diet as I kept trying different foods trying to get rid of the bitter. Very persistent and irritating. Persistent bitter taste is one of the early syptoms of ALS, a disease which has claimed the fathers of two of my son’s classmates. So we were a little worried until we found the pine mouth syndrome on the internet.
Happened to a good friend of mine earlier this year. We both had pine nuts as part of a drink, and his palate was wiped out for 2 weeks. I wasn’t phased a bit by it.
The whole family ate the arugula pesto that gave me the affliction. I was the only one affected. Weirdest thing was the bitter KK doughnuts the next day.
