Will the TCA survive a 40% alcohol. Bought a bottle of Joie de vie de poivre and it smells off, a bit musty. I don’t know if Bevmo takes bad booze back. I may contact Clear Creek!
I once had a customer bring back a Macallan 15 fine oak that was corked
Naturally if they are sealed with a cork. Yes, of course. Many examples in my experience.
TCA is often mischaracterized/misunderstood as an “infection,” when it really is a contamination (hence the term “cork taint.”) An infection is the active presence of an organism. Contamination/taint is simply the presence of a substance that has undesirable effects.
So 40% alcohol cannot “kill” (as in “prevent an organism from surviving”) cork taint. But can it disrupt the TCA molecule (thus “killing” it)? I doubt it, but I defer to those more familiar with the TCA molecule…
Had a corked Bourbon before so yes it does happen!
Corked Patron.
Corked Grey Goose here.
Corked single malt whisky a number of times. A total bummer, and the worst part was trying to convince whisky drinkers about cork taint.
