I have an opportunity to taste their chardonnay and pinots this evening, but it’s going to be difficult for me to make the event. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it for me. Would an aficionado of balanced wines with higher acidity find something to like here? (Think France or Willamette Valley) Or do the wines tend more toward the big/ripe/jammy/high alcohol new world style?
I haven’t had them in years, but I used to put them in the more elegant camp, and found them to be really good. I’d bet it would be worthwhile, but concede a lot can change in 10 or so years, and I just haven’t been paying attention to them.
More the latter than the former. That said, I like the wines and have had way more than my fair share. They bottle quite a few of the Garys’ vineyards and have had Sleepy Hollow and Bien Nacido fruit for quite a while, as well. FWIW - I did a Rosella’s horizontal (14 bottles from different producers) and the August West beat out Testarossa by a hair for the top spot. Bit of irony there
