And this is where things go off the rails for many. Is it possible to objectively describe ‘but of barnyard’ further? Are we talking leather, earthy, horsecrap, molasses?
And depending upon the variety, a bit of this may be preferred by many.
Comparing two similar 2023 Alexander Valley Gewürtztraminer wines: de Négoce Lot 524 (on Tranche I sale today) and Cam-X Lot 28. I’m glad I ordered three CX Tranche I cases last August 2025 for myself and the children. I have to admit that my daughter-in-law enjoyed dN’s offering also.
The long winded dN L 524 description can be found on denegociants.
Right, peeps…there is x1 case of Lot 24 available on Cam’s site right this very second…I have already bought x2 cases way back when and am more than bloody tempted to snag this last case however, I also believe someone else who may have missed out previously ‘deserves’ it more than me. Go at it
Well in honor of the latest release lot 52 I decided to open a 2023 Gamay Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands. This bottle is great and what I would expect from the varietal. Some nice red fruits - cherry, raspberry, a little pomegranate and then a bit of wet forest floor and some mild mushroom. No barnyard in this bottle thankfully!
If the CamX offering has a similar palette to this, similar to a Pinot, I think might be in for some if there’s any left in the morning.
Yep, shipping alcoholic beverages sucks for all of the reasons mentioned plus more. And the concept that many ‘expect’ shipping to be cheap because shipping nearly anything else is creates unrealistic expectations from a cost/margin standpoint . . .
