California wines do not suck (Keever, Bressler, Lagier Meredith, etc)

Paul, the 2001 Paloma Merlot was great. Tons of dark fruit flavor, rich body, with a little cedar and mint. Very dark hue, high color density. Years of life left. We have one more bottle and I’m thinking we will open it in a year or 2.

Thanks Steve…I remember drinking the 2001 Paloma Merlot shortly after release and found it to be rich and stuffed with fruit, but also balanced…I really enjoyed it back then but alas, I don’t have any left to sample with some bottle age on them, so I appreciate your tasting note…

I visited Keever a couple years ago and truly enjoyed meeting Olga Keever and touring her winery. I loved her Cabernet and bought several bottles.

I am so glad to have the Mondeuse and Malbec in the cellar, not to mention the Syrah. I don’t generally care for RP bashing, but I find it inconceivable that Carole and Steve could craft 70-something point wines.

+1 - Never had a bad wine from them and doubt I ever will. the scores made me laugh out loud.

Todd - my buddy Bob and I drove up and down that road every day for a week when we stayed at Aaron’s guest house not far from L/M up on Mt Veeder. Fun stuff lol especially early morning going down into the fog.

Wow, yeah, ‘fun’ in the fog! The corners are completely blind even without the cloud cover!

The road is not as bad as their ‘driveway’…

Nice to see Keever mentioned. I think their cab is top notch and they have a very good Sauvignon Blanc as well. The cabs are very serious, lots of structure, will be going strong at 20+ years.

A 2004 Keever Cab was fantastic with a Flannery ribeye tonight.
