I bought 4 bottles of their 1997 cabernet in a mixed case from a highly reputable retailer most here would know.
It completely collapsed and I cannot envision buying again at all.
I am a fan of Napa 1996, and have not tried Burgess 1996, but am not a buyer even if still available after my 1997 failures. Wish I had not spent my money. Grr.
I popped a '95 recently. It was solid, but I wasn’t wowed. It was right at that point where the tannins have almost completely resolved, but no secondary aromas have begun to emerge yet. For the $23 price, no qualms, but I would not pay full hill for this.
I did buy 8 bottles of the 2005 Frazier Estate Cabernet from WTSO last week. I bought this because you raved about it on another thread and on your blog. I have never tried it but am really looking forward to trying it.
WTSO is just one of many online wine deal sites. I do my best to try and keep up with all of them daily on my website.
The economy is providing us with some great opportunities. http://winesqueeze.wordpress.com
They had this up on April 6th of this year, too. I grabbed four of them then for the same reason but have yet to pop one open. Wish I would have so I could have purchased more if I liked it.
It seems like WTSO will put up repeats within 6 weeks or so. Definitely going to start tasting these wines I buy from there and waiting for the chance to rebuy.
Thanks for the great site Brian!! Not a bad idea to add wineaccess.com to it, too. They have some fantastic deals there and they offer refrigerated shipping for only $5 during the summer.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ryan. In all fairness I have only had the 04 and 99 recently, but expect nothing but goodness whan I pop the 05.
Cheers!
Thank you for putting up such a good blog! My cellar is 90% big, heavy cabs so it’s nice to see a blog by someone with a seasoned palette all about them! Your blog also helped me jump on 4 more bottles of Two Hands Charlie’s Patch lol.
They are my favorites, too. I’ve been trying other varietals lately, but I just don’t seem to enjoy them anywhere near as much as I do cabs. Maybe I just haven’t drank enough wine, I don’t know. Time will tell, I suppose.
This was the second time the 06 Charlie’s Patch was up. I grabbed 2 of them back in the middle of March and was waiting for them to pop up again and grabbed 4 more. So if they do show up again, I’m hoping for some 07. But hell, I’ll take some more 06, so I wouldn’t mind that either for your sake!
Sounds like you can’t go wrong with either vintage.
Where did you manage to find the Some Days Are Diamonds for only $18? Was it online somewhere? I can only find it for $22.99 for 6 or more, and by the time you include shipping, it’s almost $30 a bottle. Do you think it’s worth it?
