Just wanted to see if we could get 4 pages + of posts dedicated to this variety
Thief.
Actually for something like $16, I really enjoy the Groundwork Grenache. Made by Curt of Sans Leige. Fun wine and quite lively.
I think Larry should send out samples of his work to all of us and then we can discuss further.
We had one of Jeff’s Rudius Grenache last week and it was very good. Love what he does with Rhone varietals.
Oh man… I’ve also enjoyed Outpost in the past, but don’t seem to buy any more for whatever reason.
Unti makes a grenache that is very tasty for little $.
A Tribute to Grace, and if your sending out samples Larry should I pm my address?
Great suggestions thus far! I love the variety and ones mentioned are quite good - and for $16, that Ground Works is killer! Others that I like year in and year out include Beckmen’s Purissima Mtn Grenache, Kaena’s offeringsm especially his Tierra Alta bottling, and Jaffurs SB County offering.
I’ve had Outpost’s Grenache in the past and have enjoyed it, though have not had one in awhile. Another one from up north to add would certainly be Jemrose’s offerings.
Cheers!
And pm me for sample requests - or orders (-:
I have to say Larry…yours still takes the cake as my favorite of 2012. I need to drop by and grab a few more!
I was a fan of Graves Winegrowers The Trim Stinger, which I think was 100% Grenache. My bottles were from the 2007 vintage. Hilary Graves stopped making wine under the Graves name and switched to The Mighty Nimble, but they were some pretty good ones.
Also always enjoy Larry’s Berserker Day packages, did your Va distribution deal ever come through? We could use a visit in Richmond.
I have had some good one’s from Broc Cellars. Guess I will have to open up a Tercero this weekend
A blend, but Linne Calodo Sticks & Stones is driven by Grenache (usually 60-70% with Mourvedre and Syrah rounding out the blend) and always one of my favorites in Matt’s line-up.
Good timing, that is a big part of the reason I’m heading out your way. Who’s else should be on my list.
Yep, Metro Cellars is my distributor in VA, and one of the wines they brought in was the 09 Watch Hill Grenache.
Cheers!
I loved the Grenache that our Casey Hartlip used to make at Eagle Point Ranch.
I don’t recall the vintages but I burned through several cases!
Beckmen, Kaena, Andrew Murray, Jaffurs, Autonom . . . . that’s a good start for around here!
Tercero, Villa Creek, Bucklin “Old Hill Ranch”, Jemrose.
California and Grenache are a mighty fine match.
Mike,
Great call on Villa Creek. I was not a fan of some of Cris’s first ‘Garnachas’ as they were way over the top for me (I remember one being either just south or north of 17% ABV and it showed it!!!). Dig his current releases, especially his Mourvedre-based wines.
Rudius and Beckmen
