What style of Burgundy do you like?
The DRC Montrachets stand out.
Berry - I’m quite the newb when it comes to Burgundy. However, for reds…I definitely prefer a more “feminine” or elegant expresssion of pinot…I’m not looking for big or brawny…In the past, I’ve really enjoyed wines from Volnay, Chambolle-Musigny, and Morey St. Denis. But, my experience is VERY limited.
As for the whites - clueless!!
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
Paul - Feel free to have a bottle waiting for us!
I must say that all the DRC’s look somewhat like decent deals.

Kim, when we were in Burgundy we did not pass up a chance to drink Roulot or Dujac.
That strategy worked really well for us.
I just had the 08 Lambrays yesterday, P&P at a restaurant, it sorta came around towards the end of the meal, but was showing poorly at the beginning.
Opened a 05 Mugnier CdlM about a month ago at an offline. Was super tight and not giving much until 2 hrs in and even then didn’t show well. 24 hrs later, this bottle was singing.
Good data points! It might be worth going in early to the restaurant and asking them to open the bottles a few hours early and have then pour out a small pour. And maybe quick double decant first.
Drinking young burgs is a challange in a restaurant setting IMO and thus I rarely do so unless Im bringing them and prep them in advance or can arrange for the somm to prep them.
My favorite restaurant wine type is Champagne for this reason.
Seemed like many more “interesting” deals/buys among the whites than reds, particularly in the 175+/- Euro range - such as Ramonet Batard 2007/8, Leflavie 1er crus, Lafon Perrieres, etc.
On the reds, didn’t love the choices but for a splurge on a young wine, the Rousseau grand crus or CSJ were decently prices and the Mugniers weren’t too badly priced.
Probably some nice lower end buys such as some Boillots for instance - but would have to do some more thinking.
Actually was somewhat surprised at so few offerings pre-2006…
Just ate there last week. Get the snails on the Traditional Menu.
Had the 2008 Javallier Bourgogne Blanc. I think it was 28 euro and very tasty. Followed with the 2006 Dujac Charmes and that was very delicious and pretty much ready to go straight off a pop and pour. Enjoy. Fun place.
I’m pretty sure the Ramonet Ruchottes was not on the current list (as of my visit) at the restaurant when I went in July, as I did similar research and had really wanted the Ruchottes when I went.

2001 Côte Rotie Tupin …J.M. Stéphan 130,00 € **** Never forget to look at the Rhones on a Burgundy list! Nobody ever orders them!!**
Is it just me, or is it surprising how few older bottles they have on the list? With prices and wines like that I would drink champagne…

Burgundy gets a lot of wine tourism. The turnover at these restaurants is pretty high. It’s mostly the high-end Michelin * type places that have the resources to cultivate selections of older vintages.

Not a great list in terms of the price IMO. As others said some DRCs are decent deals. I loved the 08 Rousseau CDB when I had in Bordeaux this spring but we only paid sub 250 euro. I think the 08 Roulot is a good deal as I am not a big fan of Clavoillon.
I like Sugarman’s white selections. Most of the reds are so freaking young that I would hate to spend big bucks on them and have to drink them now.
Hi Kim,
A few others on the list worth considering:
07 Monthelie Blanc- Comtes Lafon @49.8
09 St. Aubin “En Remilly”- Bernard Moreau @ 49.5
08 Puligny AC- Louis Carillon @69
08 Auxey-Duresses Rouges- Coche-Dury @54
07 Volnay AC- Comtes Lafon @69
01 NSG “Champs Perdrix”- Alain Michelot @68
01 NSG “Vaucrains”- Alain Michelot @85
08 Chambolle AC- Freddy Mugnier @82
08 Chambolle 1er Cru- Joseph Drouhin @ 80
Both the Henriot Blanc de Blancs and Duval-Leroy “Fleur de Champagne” are very good values if you are looking for Champagne to start.
Have a great trip,
John
