Burgs and a Rosé

  • 2010 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru (9/16/2013)
Expressive red berry fruits that are quite lush. It has a hint of flora and some earthy traits lurking just below the surface. Eminently gluggable and the bottle disappeared in no time.
  • 2012 Domaine François Cotat (Paul & François) Sancerre Chavignol Rosé - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (9/16/2013)
Smells of fresh roses, red fruits and peaches. Full and generous in the mouth with sweet, succulent fruits. Despite the flesh it is detailed and possesses excellent length of flavour and overall poise. Outstanding Rosé !
  • 1988 La Pousse d’Or Santenay 1er Cru Clos Tavannes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru (9/14/2013#
Just a little bit of meaty funk on the nose, hardly worth mentioning (if its not worth mentioning why the f*ck am I mentioning it then?). Very earthy wine with some decaying leaf development. The palate has really sweetened up over the last couple of years and it is a very good drink. It has plenty of savoury nuance, builds in the mouth and still finishes with plenty of grip.
  • 2010 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru (9/14/2013)
The fruits have an exotic edge and oak a touch of vanilla. It is sappy, rich and mouthfilling yet cut with piercing minerality. As it breathes up there’s a touch of aniseed and the wine really builds in the glass. It finishes with good cut and is very long.

Sounds lovely

It is good Berry. I reckon you’d like it.

Jeremy, great notes. The best rose I have ever had was from Cotat. Tasted like Sancere, but a bit richer and fuller.

Was the Caillerets red or white?

Hi Howard,

The Caillerets was white.

Agree on Cotat, this and the '11 are two of the best rosé wines I have had.

Best Regards
Jeremy

Count me as another big fan of the Cotat Rose. A perennial favorite of mine.

Personally i am a fan of that santenay. I probably drank more than a dozen combined of the 88/89/90 of that wine. None left alas.

I didn’t love the 2011 F. Cotat rose (although it was certainly still better than a lot of other rose out there), but the 2010 is absolutely magical. Best rose I have ever had. I put a few away in the cellar because the stuff ages, too. Looking forward to the 2012 when it hits the US.
