2004 Azelia Barolo - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (3/9/2012)
Bright and energetic with some serious ripeness as well. It has some balsamic notes along with raisins, macerated cherries and it is quite inky. It has good generosity in the mouth and flavors hit that perfect place between sweet and savory. It is extremely youthful and very well balanced and is a ‘garden variety’ Barolo that I suspect will age for a long time. -
2006 Buisson-Charles Meursault 1er Cru Les Cras - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (3/9/2012)
Ripe, heady, forward and quite honeyed. This is full flavored Meursault with aromas and flavours of ripe orchard fruits, almonds, butter and lavender. It is relatively low in acid but has plenty of chewy dry extract to the finish. Whilst quite pleasurable and not oxidised it got quite nutty in the glass towards the end of the bottle a couple of hours after opening. -
2007 Laurent Tribut Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (3/9/2012)
Absolutely quintessential Chablis, loaded with salt, citrus, blossom, rain water and talc. Generous and textured in a Dauvissat way. Great tension and focus…delicious stuff. -
2009 Domaine Ramonet Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (3/9/2012)
Plenty of flavor but rather simplistic with it’s bombastic orchard fruit personalty. There’s some Ramonet spearmint cream and the texture is unctuous, almost oily. Could do with a big acid hit to clean things up. -
2004 Morey-Blanc Meursault Les Tessons - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (3/4/2012)
Very youthful and fresh with an aroma of rocket, mint, white peach, lemons and almond. It is lean with a high tensile citric acid spine. There are some nice subtle toasty development notes and it is crisp and refreshing with areal cool fruit feel.
