Having a family dinner at Bishop’s in Vancouver. I’d like to open something special. My burg collection is both in its infancy and shallow. Here are a few I’m considering:
I have two apiece of these wines:
2002 Maison Albert Bichot Echezeaux
2002 Maison Albert Bichot Grands-Echezeaux Domaine du Clos Frantin
2006 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Le Corton
2006 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges
I have singletons of the following:
1999 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays
1999 Domaine Rene Leclerc Griotte-Chambertin
2002 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux
I didn’t start buying significantly until the '09 and '10 vintages, when I went long and deep on reasonably priced La Pousse d’Or, Simon Bize, Pavelot, Dubreuil-Fontaine, Nicolas Rossignol, Chandon de Briailles.
Thanks in advance for advice, and Happy Fathers’ Day!
Ditto - the '99s have too much pedigree to drink now with too much potential going forward - this should be showing some of it’s brawny fruit now and if I remember right, these were pretty showy wines young - so they should be ready to roll -
For future reference, buy some 2007s so you have wine to drink while waiting for your 2009s and 2010s. On your list, esp. get some 2007 Pousse d’Or. I have bought a bunch of 2007 Chandon de Briailles (and have heard really good things from friends) but have not tried any yet.
Yeah, if I was in that boat, I’d be backfilling on older vintages generally. Wines from the mid-95s aren’t any more expensive that current releases, for the most part. Envoyer gets some in. See also Hart Davis Hart and Benchmark.
Howard,
Thanks for the advice. I just picked up some 2007 Chandon de Briailles Pernand Vergelesses Ile de Vergelesses from Envoyer for a song.
Cheers,
Warren
