This seems like it might be one of the best buys left in Gevry. Some interesting threads that look like the estate is improving while the pricing is some of the best I’ve seen for 2010’s. I picked up some Lavaux St Jacques, Champeaux, and Les Corvees. Also found the 10 Charmes-Chambertin for $100.
I put Tortochot in the same camp as Drouhin-Laroze…these are often very good wines, especially in good vintages. They have plots in top climats, but pricing is near the bottom for such wines. Quality pretty much always exceeds pricing. In great vintages when these two producers do well they are screaming deals.
Are they the very best examples of these sites? No. Prone to being a bit on the clunky side (sometimes - not always). But they are priced at 25-30% (or less) of the top wines from these sites…well worth the cash in the right vintages IMO. Of course it is an individual value judgment whether one would rather have 1 bottle of Bachelet Charmes or 4 bottles of Tortochot Charmes for about the same money…
i tried that same tortochot lavaux st jacques recently and at $50. morell has them on sale and i randomly walked into the rock center store. it’s priced okay. not any great deal.
Had the Charmes recently and went back to MCF wines for a few more. The 10 is very young but I think has tons of potential. A bit more gruff than polished right now but it was very good and a solid buy for GC.
