One of the better QPRs I’ve encountered!
From K&L.

2005 Beaune “Clos du Roi” (Chanson) – 13.5% alcohol - $29.99
Nice crimson red with a hint of amber at the edge.
Fine nose of spice, white pepper, herbs, root beer, rocks and black cherry.
Spicy, high toned, earthy, extra-minerally, bing cherry fruit.
Fine acid and tannins give it a mouthwatering quality.
Very pure and could stand a few years aging. [90 pts]
Note: Decant for 45 minutes minimum and serve at cellar temp.

Thanks a lot for this note Paul. This has been on my radar since K&L got in back in stock, you convinced me to order some.
If you decant it for an hour, you won’t be disappointed…

Thanks for this recommendation Paul. Glad I got a few before K&L sold out.

2005 Chanson Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (9/24/2010)
Popped & poured. Tasted and then let it sit an hour+ and drank over the next 3. Started very tight, not much fruit and a tannic finish. Time in the glass did wonders for this wine. Nose shows warm, dark cherry fruit. Palate is much less fruity, with tart red cherries peeking out from behind earth, bark and minerals. Great acidity. Tannins show up on the finish, but with air they soften and don’t detract. I’ll try not to open another bottle for a few years, but this reminds me why I love Burgundy: it doesn’t give it away.
