Bullshit on Wine Labels

What’s the craziest, most exaggerated, flowery, ponctufulous, and/or self-aggrandizing BS you have ever seen on a wine label?

I’ve been guilty of writing one or two. [blush2.gif] But please don’t make me submit our own. [beg.gif]

Rombauer chardonnay - - “A touch of oak”.

APRIL FOOL! I have no idea what their label says but the wine is a definite DNPIM.

Hands down the marketing comments on a tetrapak of Argentinean wine:

  • “the legend of Malbec”
  • “a century-old tradition”
  • and “the incredible taste and flavour of the best that Argentina can produce”

The content was about on par with the powder wine (dehydrated for trekkers) I had some day.

Bullion Rouge Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon:

“…located on the North slope of Mount St. Helena, in Lake County, California. Our grapes grow in rich, mineral-laden volcanic soils on the sunny side of the mountain, in the cleanest air in the country, irrigated with the finest water, all of which help produce the highest quality, best flavored fruit.”

Powdered wine? Seriously?

Its not BS, but I tried a wine from Finland a few weeks ago, and the suggested food pairing was reindeer. [wow.gif]

Truth- the only back labels worth reading are Ridge’s. All others fall into the jumble of “warm days/cool nights/ handcrafted/careful pracitces/french oak cooperage/blahbettyblahblahblah”.

begs a new thread: “most over-used cliche words in the wine biz”

My votes:

Passion
Artisan
Handcrafted

Kosta browne 14.8% alcohol. [diablo.gif]

Tradition beats all those by a mile.

That thing is nasty

Tradition beats all those by a mile.

really? more than passion?

disagree…i encounter that word virtually every day in this biz. i cringe when i read it at this point.

At least with passion there’s a slight chance there’s some reality to it. Nobody even knows what tradition means.

But I understand what you mean, I guess we simply don’t come across the same wines/people.

That’s only because reindeer is the only food available so everything around MUST pair with it.

So, how was this wine? Did you Finnish it?

Thank you. I’ll be here all week.

My thoughts exactly…

damn you, Linda. I miss you!

Me too! [cray.gif]
