Brief TNs: 07 Chevillon Perrieres, 09 Rapet Beaune Clos du Roi, 07 Lecheneaut Prulieres

  • 2007 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (5/11/2014)
Popped and poured. Darker ruby hue. Spirited nose of raspberry, anise, peat, violets, cherry pits. Laser sharp layers of black raspberry, bing cherry, brambles, and iron on the palate, propelled by ample acidity and quite stern tannins. Long, echoing finish of dark plum fruit and iron flecks. Became a bit disjointed a few hours later, to me a sign of youth rather than a fault. This could age for years. (91 pts.)
  • 2009 Rapet Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (5/11/2014)
Decanted for 2 hours and served at Mother’s Day meal. Darker ruby. Nose of blackberry, raspberry, earth, anise, licorice. One can taste the fruit forwardness of the vintage with lots of black raspberry and cherry notes, but there is also a broad earthiness and dusty quality to the tannins anchoring this to the soil. Acidity fresh and lively. Moderately long finish of dark fruits, earth, and cinnamon. Very nice Beaune quite accessible with some air. (90 pts.)
  • 2007 Fernand Lécheneaut et Fils (Philippe et Vincent) Nuits St. Georges Les Prulières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (5/9/2014)
Decanted for 90 minutes. Medium ruby color. Nose of anise, earth, plum, violets. Compact but very elegant layering of black raspberry and dark plum fruit, with fine grained tannins and moderate acidity. Longer finish of intense dark fruit and sweet grip. Oak notes well integrated. Nice showing. (91 pts.)
