Does anyone else subscribe / read? I took the plunge and went for 1 years. I am on my 3rd (of 6 per year) issue. It’s awesome. If you can read French. They have these fantastic detailed features of a specific parcel (Amoureuses, Chambertain, etc etc) with a map included of each Domaine’s holdings and a small insert from a geologist discussing the terroir. I like the way they score, where the score is an indication of where the wine sets today within its original hierarchy. A Bourgogne can be 18 (out of 20) and a Grand Cru can be 17 but the concept is that the Grand Cru is inherently a better wine based on the level of appellation. Very French, I know. But actually you can read between lines and understand that some Villages at 18 are much better buys than 1er Crus at 15. And they readily admit that a 17 for a wine today can be due to its structure.
I normally hate scoring but I like the way they’ve approached the subject. Otherwise all of the terroir articles and little pieces about up and coming vingerons are terribly interesting. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of USD 250 for 2 years (international shipping). I am convinced its a great deal. Also some cool travel / eating articles.
It’s at least worth your time to check it out if not worth your $250 for 2 years to get some great maps / insights.
