Bourdain hanging with Ray

Pretty cool. Good job Ray!

Ludo is pretty big time… one of the hottest chefs in the US, i think most of the viewing public for that show would know who Ludo is.

They also really needed to devote lots of time to Auxerre because of the Ludo angle. I would have enjoyed seeing more of Cote d’Or but maybe this will divert the hordes to Auxerre.
My wife just cursed and cursed through the entire episode. We loved it. I expect to go plane ticket shopping in several weeks for next summer. [cheers.gif]

Ive been to Burgundy and agree with Keith. It made me want to go back and made me realize I need to see more of it than just the cote d’or.

Guys, after all, it has always been a food show. We were fortunate to have Ray’s segment, got to see some great scenery, a dinner at l"Esperance with Marc Meneau, the inner workings of a small restaurant, Ludo’s family, and a sheep farm. Seems like a good show to me…

What I loved most of this thread, and the TV clip, was the shattering of my preconceived notions. I assumed, without really knowing anything, that Ray was an affluent retiree picking up and chasing a dream. And here I learn, and see, that he’s a young dude, a really young dude, chasing his dreams and passions. Now I feel more like a loser!

j/k

Well done, Ray. Not a burgundy guy, but willing to try. I am Tevo’ing the episode. Seems fund.

Howard, you don’t need to feel sorry for me. It is a TV show. No need to get so emotional. I think it sucked so you can deal with that and I don’t care what you think. neener neener neener

And I will say that my posts have not been about Ray. I thought he was great on the show and it can only help him get more publicity. Kudos to Ray. Still a fluff piece by Anthony.

I see Lyle is here. Anybody check the temperature in Hades today? Are they expecting snow flurries?

Glad to see you here Lyle! [wow.gif]

The episode was perfect timing for me… I have some friends leaving for Burgundy on Saturday and I provided some input. I wish the Caves de Madeline dinner was not cut out because I insisted they make a reservation there. It is hard to tell from the photo, but I think there are opened bottles of Rousseau CSJ plus a Mugnier on the table?? My friend sent me an email today and he is glad he watched it and is even more excited about his trip.

Most importantly my wife watched the episode with me. She will be in Paris next spring and I am hoping to pop over at the end of her visit and we tack on a mini-vacation without children in Burgundy for a few nights. She really liked seeing the scenery and is very keen on visiting.

Congratulations Ray, I don’t know a more deserving person for success!

Hey Robert
thanks for the comment. Really thoughtful of you. Hope you enjoy the episode. [cheers.gif]

Enjoyed the episode, love Bourdain’s edge. Very fun to see Ray, glad he didn’t make me carry barrels around when we visited  Wish there had been more of Ray, and maybe another wine segment, but it is a food show, after all.

No different than ANY other AB food show I’ve ever seen (seen them all)

OK , the show from Lebanon in 2006 was different…

Ray–I’ll TRY to carry a barrel if you need…

There was also a really good one where he was hanging with someone in Vietnam (laos?) who lost a limb from an unexploded bomb that was pretty powerful.

On our trek from Lisbon to Paris next summer we were going to bypass Burgundy and go to the Loire instead. I think we will reconsider.

I still want to be just like Bourdain (minus the cigarettes) when I grow up.

I like his Vietnam shows (he clearly loves the place) and the Laos episode as well. I have Burgundy DVR’ed but have been working non-stop since it aired. I’m looking forward to the show and I’m certain that it will deepen the urge to return to Burgundy to stay more than a day or two after 20 years

Definitely. We did both last fall. I enjoyed seeing some big Chateau in Loire, but after spending time in Burgundy with my wife, I have her convinced we should spend a month there every year when we retire

Just got back from Burgundy and a visit with Ray about 10 days ago. I thought the show was great. My wife and I both thought it did a nice job of capturing the atmosphere of the area, made us so glad we got the opportunity to go and certainly made us want to return soon. Even with editing, I think it captured what I perceive as Ray’s vision for what he is trying to do.
Kudos to Ray and AB.

My wife is saying the same thing but she doesn’t even want to wait for me to retire. Sounds good to me and she’s not even the geek in the family.
Counting my blessings every day!
