They seem to have killed Bouchard somehow. Auction prices for recent Bouchard are a fraction of the release prices. They jacked up the prices so much and 21/22/23 have been mostly panned to average by critics. I don’t think they’ve sold much through the front door and they sell like Russian River Valley Pinots at auction, it’s crazy. So I don’t think whatever they do could hurt at this point.

Interesting.

Gerald Asher worked on the ill fated Monterey Vineyard project. The winery made a botrytised sauvignon blanc that tasted a bit like canned sweet asparagus. A friend said, this wine is great..you get your vegetables and dessert in one bottle.

Gerald, who was present, noted that they put a new label on the wine since he had left.

Bouchard Meursault Perrieres has been sort of my go-to not-too-expensive white Burg since I ended my premox-induced boycott of the region. It has doubled in price over the last few years. It’s as good as ever, but no better, thereby halving the QPR. I can only imagine what will happen with the 2023 under the Cabottes label.

Yep, I love their Perrieres (and Genevreieres) and for many years these were the best values in Burgundy. Too bad they will be gone. Glad I still have a number of bottles of Perrieres.

That’s a 20% increase over the 2022 Meursault Perrieres, which was $160. I thought long and hard about that one. At $192, I’m out.

I’ll use Monty as an example because I was buying it every year.

2017 was $550
2018 was $600
2019 was $670
2020 was $800
2021 was $1200
2022 down to $1k.

All currently hammer at auction for around $500-600. With inflation, even the older vintages aren’t actually worth more. So they definitely out-punted their coverage on the price hikes.

Looks like Frederic Weber will continue making the wines under the Domaines des Cabottes label and enologist Mikael Baroin, who was on Weber’s winemaking team for ten years will make the rest under the Domaines Bouchard Père & Fils label, according to this Oct, 2025 article (below).

I do not see that new owners Artemis/Pinault are getting rid of the Bouchard name (correct me if someone has better info). Instead it looks like all the cream of the crop go under the new Cabottes label and the rest are still “Bouchard”.

I have heard from people that Frederic Engerer, the big boss, would like to get rid of the BP and F brand, but I don’t really know.
I do see BP and F being ‘dumped’ on the internet. Of course,Meursault for 80$ and Les Clous foir 125$ hardly qualifies a a dump, but compared to the de Montille price of 175 for the Clous, maybe so.

Thanks for the Sarah Marsh article. Traditional wisdom is that you link the big hitters in the line up with the singles hitters. In other words, you link your Chevalier Montrachet with your Bourgogne blanc for a bit of reflected glory. Artemis seems to be doing the opposite.
