Bordeaux producers - examples of lighter, less rich and more transparent in colour ("burgundy-style") -producers?

But is that anything remotely close to Pavie Macquin?

The answer is to drink mature Bordeaux instead of young Bordeaux. Young Bordeaux just isn’t supposed to be light or transparently colored even when it’s classically made.

I don’t know, but I doubt it.

Interesting, I’ve seen Kirwan at my local Costco for a while, never thought about picking one up. Will give it a shot next time I’m there. Not sure the vintage, though.

Wine Exchange (winex.com) just listed some new pre-arrival 2010 Bel Air Marquis d’Aligre @ $65.98, FYI.

And that’s kind of an ongoing issue here. Everyone has been focused only on half of Tomas’s OP. I asked for clarification, but Tomas never replied, so who knows how helpful this thread will actually be for him. Regardless, it’s a good conversation, and may be helpful to others.

Good point.

there are a number of excellent California wines that are not oaky

I don’t know if Tomas is still interested but I had a bottle of Rauzan-Ségla 2000 which fit the description perfectly - a model of elegance and classicism.
