Bordeaux EP 2024

I Haven’t had the 2020 yet but I will say, the 2019 Cheval is outstanding right now. Showing an incredible bouquet and open-knit mouthfeel. I was spoiled to experience this in a recent blind tasting. Will keep and eye out for 2020 as well.

Based on the scores, doesn’t look likely. Maybe Sauternes?

Pontet Canet is the obvious answer IMO. It’s too bad they screwed the pooch on pricing. Also probably Haut Brion Blanc and LMHB Blanc.

That’s off the top of my head. I can probably think of more.

Doubt we see those Blancs priced too cheaply anyways.

the Montrose release at £507/6 is, imho, an interesting and fairly self-aware pricing. It’s not the best price going, but its also definitely not a bad price by any stretch.

SHL Blanc hit yesterday. I looked right past it.

If you are buying any 2024’s this should be a candidate for purchasing

Agreed! I bought a bottle, my daughter is called Ros[amund] so it seems apt, and in keeping with the 6 mags I bought for her in her birth year.

[i say her, i mean me]

I haven’t tried Pontet-Canet’s 2024, of course, but I have tried 2019’s and I very, very much doubt that this year’s wine is better than 2019. No matter what one critic (yes the one your judgement seems to be guided by) says.

In fairness, its not just 1.

NM and both WK think 2024 is superior to 2019.

Basing it on my own tasting of the wines, FWIW.

I still very much doubt it 2024 is better than 2019.

I hope I will try 2024 soon like you say you have and I will come back to you.

In the meantime I have about 10 or 12 professional critics who agree with me. Only one disagrees.

well, as I said above, its two who disagree ! And WK and NM aren’t just another-critic in the scheme of things

Given the historic controvesy around Pontet, though, and overextraction, etc, I could full well believe that, with a new wine consultant since 2023, and moving away from an overextracted style, they’ve ended up with a better wine in 2024 than 2019.

I havent tasted either myself, though.

Hey, I’ll sell you 2019 or 2024. In fact, I can sell you the 2019 with no tariff complications, and I can book the profit immediately, so if anything I’d rather sell you that.

But if I’m being honest, the 2024 is the better wine.

I believe since 2023.

I went pretty deep on 23 and may consider just montrose for 2024 so far

Yep: Montrose is tempting…

Please, correct me if I’m wrong but I think NM rated 2019 with 94 points while 2024’s off barrel rating is 92-95.

I wouldn’t say that is disagreeing. Not for now, at least.

the most recent one from Neal Martin was 92. There was a previous 94 point score.
